The Kinema, Sherwood’s First Cinema
Return
Although not of any great architectural merit the Kinema, Sherwood’s first cinema, still stands on Haydn Road. It was built in 1913 and was very popular between the wars; when it first opened Mr. Hemming, the Headmaster of Haydn Council School, warned children about “the dangers of seeing exciting pictures.” It closed in the Second World War and reopened afterwards as Richard Stump’s clothing factory.
